Mocha Almond Smoothie Recipe

I am obsessed with this smoothie!

The other week, I went to Freshii to get the Oaxaca Bowl and I decided to get a smoothie too. I got the Recoverii Smoothie and it was so good that I wanted to start making smoothies at home. I already have a Nutri Ninja Blender which I will talk more about in an upcoming review. It didn’t make sense that I hadn’t been making smoothies already. I did when I first got it, but then as I moved around, I forgot about it. My sister would occasionally use it to make blended vodka drinks and that was the only action it saw for quite some time.

After finishing that delicious Recoverii Smoothie from Freshii. Which btw I’m totally craving now. I began to research smoothie recipes online. I wanted something that was simple to make and didn’t require too many ingredients. I started compiling a list when I saw it: Mocha Almond Smoothie. This was like my morning latte taken up a notch!

It combines all my favourites: coffee, chocolate, almond milk, cinnamon and bananas, along with a few other ingredients. It sounded so good that I went out that night to get everything I needed. I didn’t actually make the drink that night though. I got home from work around 10:30pm and wasn’t about to have coffee and stay up all night! I literally have not felt so excited to start my morning in a long time!

Just like I was looking for, it was super easy to make! It didn’t take up much time and clean up was simple compared to cooking an actual breakfast. This has now replaced my previous favourite breakfast meal. Which I talked about meal prepping here: BREAKFAST MEAL PREP: Fruit, Granola & Yogurt. This smoothie is great as a meal replacement. It really does keep you full for a long time and tastes so good! They say that freezing the bananas makes it have a better texture, but I’ll leave that up to you. I’ve been using this recipe for about 2 weeks now and have used both frozen and unfrozen bananas. The only reason I’m freezing the bananas now are so they won’t go bad sitting on the counter.

Alright, well let’s get into this recipe now:

Mocha Almond Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of coffee or espresso (I use Tassimo pods)
  • 1/3 cup of almond milk
  • 1 pitted date, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp of cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp of smooth almond butter
  • ¼ tsp of cinnamon powder
  • Tiny pinch of sea salt
  • 4 ice cubes
  • Grated dark chocolate (for topping)

Directions:

Like I said, the directions are super simple. You just take all the ingredients and place them in blender and blend. I always like to blend by adding wet ingredients first and dry ingredients after. I find it blends better this way. Also, another tip would be to allow the coffee to cool before adding it in the blending cup. I use a Tassimo machine and right now I’m using Columbian coffee, but I also would enjoy this with a shot of espresso. If you do use an espresso, I suggest adding a bit more water so it doesn’t come out too thick.

I love having this drink every morning. It tastes so good and goes down fast! I literally sit at my desk to sip it and then find myself drinking the whole thing in one go. Its so yummy! I definitely recommend you trying it! If you do try it and like it let me know in the comments below!
